Cornalin d'Aoste

Humagne Rouge ( synonym: cornalin d' Aosta ) is a red wine grape that most likely arrived in the early 20th century from the Aosta Valley in the Swiss canton of Valais, where it is a specialty today. The vineyard area is 124.7 hectares (2007, Source: Office fédéral de l'agriculture OFAG )

The Humagne Rouge is a robust, late -ripening grape that produces a ruby - purple, tannic and powerful wine with a fruity berry bouquet, which is well suited for a Barrique. It was formerly known as " Hell wine."

There is also a white variety called Humagne Blanche, which is also grown in the Valais, however, is not related to Humagne Rouge.
