Cosquín, Córdoba

Cosquín is the capital of the department Punilla in the province of Cordoba in central Argentina. It is located in Punilla Valley at Río Cosquín, at the foot of Cerro Pan de Azucar in the Sierras de Córdoba and today has a population of 25,000, together with the grown-together with the city suburbs Villa Bustos, Santa María de Punilla and Bialet Massé, which Cosquín a forms local community, there are about 40,000.

The festival Folclórico de Cosquín ( Folk Festival )

For the first time the festival was held on the initiative of some citizens ( Here Cosquín ) from 21 to 29 January 1961 with the Eröffnungsruf " Aquííí Cosquíííínnnn " who wanted to establish a tourist attraction in the summer holidays. The nine -day event called Las nueve lunas de Cosquín ( The nine moons ). The festival sparked a renewal of Argentine and Latin American folk music. One contributing factor was that among others, the influential radio station Belgrano de Buenos Aires from 1962 on was live the festival. In 1972, the stage was named after Atahualpa Yupanqui, who won the 1969 first prize. Around 10,000 spectators are in the building place.

The festival occurred on numerous internationally successful musicians, among other Mercedes Sosa, Los Cantores Del Alba, Los Chalchaleros, Ramona Galarza, Los de Salta, Gustavo Cuchi Leguizamón, Antonio Tormo and Soledad Pastorutti.
