County of Roussillon
The County of Rosselló ( Roussillon county also, Catalan Comtat del Rosselló, French Comte de Roussillon ) was one of the historical Catalan counties and part of the Spanish Mark. This was built by the Franks for protection against the Moors. By the Treaty of the Pyrenees from 1659 it belonged to the kingdom of Aragon and after the personal union of Aragon with Castile in 1469 to Spain. After the area was French as a county Roussillon province. After the French Revolution in 1789, the department of Pyrenees- Orientales was formed primarily from the area of the county.
