Covelo AVA

The area is located about 70 km north of Ukiah in Mendocino County Administrative Region. Although currently less than 1 hectares is planted, Covelo was awarded by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is a protected designation of origin. This is justified by the unusual climate; Covelo is shielded by higher peaks from the Pacific Ocean and features despite the relative coastal proximity on a continental climate. Moreover, the temperature differences between day and night is very pronounced; a fact which is important for a quality wine.
