Covent Garden tube station

Covent Garden is an underground station of the London Underground, near the popular shopping district, Covent Garden in the borough of City of Westminster. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 1 and is served by the Piccadilly Line. In 2011, 20.28 million passengers used the station.

Current on April 11, 1907 by the former Great Northern, Piccadilly & Brompton Railway ( predecessor company of Piccadilly Line ) opened station was designed by architect Leslie Green. It is one of the few in central London, with platforms can only be reached by lifts or steep stairs. Especially on Saturday afternoon, when most people are traveling in the adjacent shopping area, the station is crowded. At times, was a provision that on Saturday afternoons only, but was not allowed to be entered. Transport for London has announced plans to build a second exit in the near future. Due to the terrorist attacks of 7 July 2005, the station was closed for a few weeks. On August 4, the re- opening took place.

Covent Garden is just 260 meters from the station Leicester Square; this is the shortest distance between adjacent stations in the entire network of the Underground. A walk between the two stations takes less time than a trip on the subway. Nevertheless, the future of the station Covent Garden is secured, otherwise the station Leicester Square would encounter especially on weekends at their capacity limits.
