Gold Crocosmia ( Crocosmia aurea )

Montbretien ( Crocosmia ) are a genus of flowering plants in the family of Iris Family ( Iridaceae ). The habit of the species and varieties reminiscent of gladioli. Some varieties are grown as ornamental plants in parks and gardens. The only seven to twelve species are just south of the Sahara is home to the capensis and Madagascar. Named is the genus by Ernest Coquebert de Montbret.

Description

Crocosmia species grow as a perennial, herbaceous plants. They form rhizomes ( colloquially known as nodules ) as outlasting. The plants are evergreen or leafless under unfavorable climatic conditions. The most upright stems are branched in the rule. The basal or alternate and distichous on the stem distributed according to the type leaves are sessile, sword- shaped and entire.

Four to twenty flowers are arranged in two rows in the inflorescences; under each of the two flowers are orange to red (rarely green ) bracts. The sessile flowers are hermaphrodite, zygomorphic and threefold. There are two circles, each with three, striking orange to red-colored bloom cladding available; the outer ones are slightly larger than the inner ones, all are fused Roehrig. It's just a circle with three fertile stamens present. Three carpels are fused into one inferior ovary. Depending on the Pollination is entomophilous, anemophilous or ornithophil.

Are formed dreifächerige capsule fruits. Each capsule compartment contains two to four spherical seeds.

The genus Crocosmia in 1851 situated in Flore des Serres et des Jardins de l'Europe, 7, p 161. Type species is Crocosmia aurea (cardboard ex Hook. ) Planch. Synonyms for Crocosmia Planch. are: Montbretia DC, Curtonus N.E.Brown. .

The genus belongs to the tribe Crocosmia Croceae in the subfamily Crocoideae ( Syn: Ixioideae ) within the family Iridaceae.

  • Gold Crocosmia ( Crocosmia aurea (cardboard ex Hook f ) Planch.. ): It is a shade-loving species with yellow to orange flowers that occurs in South Africa (Cape, Natal ) and in East Africa.
  • Crocosmia fucata ( Lindl. ) MPen Vos, Origin: South Africa
  • Transkei Crocosmia ( Crocosmia masoniorum ( L.Bolus ) NEBr. ): It is a tall-growing species with orange to vermilion flowers of the Transkei in South Africa.
  • Crocosmia mathewsiana ( L.Bolus ) Goldblatt ex MPen Vos, Origin: South Africa
  • Panicles - Crocosmia Crocosmia or High ( Crocosmia paniculata ( Klatt ) Goldblatt ), it is found in South Africa
  • Crocosmia pearsei Oberm, home. South Africa
