Magna Car Top Systems GmbH is a German automobile company that manufactures car roof systems. The company is based Bietigheim -Bissingen. The company is a 100 % subsidiary of the Canadian-Austrian Magna International Inc.

History

The manufacturer was founded in 1995 under the name Car Top Systems ( CTS) as a 50/ 50 joint venture between DaimlerChrysler and Porsche. CTS manufactures hoods and roof modules. After DaimlerChrysler sold its shares in September 2003 to complete Porsche, Porsche sold the company in November 2005 CTS completely at Magna International. Since then CTS operates under Magna Car Top Systems GmbH.

With effect from 25 February 2010, the Japanese production base of Karmann Japan Co. Ltd. was. acquired by the parent company Magna International. For the European market, the Federal Cartel Office said on 23 May 2010, the takeover of the insolvent Karmann GmbH, as a dominant duopoly was expected.

  • Tychy, Poland (assembly of the modular semi- convertible roof system for the Fiat 500 CC)
  • Antwerp, Belgium (production Retractable Hard Tops, location is leased from Opel )
  • Bowling Green, USA (soft -tops for North American customers )
  • Toluca, Mexico ( production of all material volumes for North American and Japanese soft top customers )
  • In Japan, Magna manufactures on the premises of a supplier of Nissan on a small scale soft - tops.
