Cumberland Falls

Cumberland Falls is a large waterfall, the Cumberland River in southeastern Kentucky forms.

Location

He is the center of Cumberland Falls State Park. The above-mentioned river forms the natural border between the McCreary County and Whitley County. Consequently, the park is located in two administrative units. The park is adjacent to the area of the Daniel Boone National Forest.

History

The Cumberland Falls are mentioned early on in travelogues. In 1750 they were named by Dr. Thomas Walker on his exploration of Kentucky after the Duke of Cumberland. Richard Henry Collins refers to the cases in its history Kentucky in 1874 as one of the most remarkable objects of the state. In 1800, the Falls and the surrounding land were privately owned. As the cases attracted tourists since the 19th century, among them a hotel was built. 1931 surrounding the cases State Park was established.
