Curepipe

Curepipe is with 84,200 inhabitants (2005 ), the fourth-largest city on the island of Mauritius and is situated on a plateau in the center of the island in the district of Plaines Wilhems.

For the name, there is no guaranteed return. One of the explanations is that travelers from the port of Mahebourg to Port Louis here took a break to clean their pipes. Therefore "Cure" and " Pipe" (French curer sa pipe). Over the years, there formed a small town. In the midst of the extinct volcano crater Trou aux Cerfs is located ( German Hirsch hole, 200 m diameter, 85 m deep). About five kilometers to the south is the largest water reservoir of the island, the Mare aux Vacoas.
