Cyphocharax voga

The Breitlingssalmler ( Curimatidae ) are a family of Central and South freshwater fish. Their range extends from southern Costa Rica to northern Argentina, just south of Buenos Aires. They also come west in front of the Andes from the Río Atrato in northwestern Colombia to northwestern Peru. Most species live in the river basins of the Amazon and Orinoco.

Features

Breitlingssalmler be 4 to 32 inches long. Your body may be flattened spindle-shaped or high backs and sides. In contrast to almost all other Characins the Curimatidae missing all mandibular teeth. The only second jaw toothless Salmlergruppe is the genus of the family of Anodus Keulensalmler ( Hemiodontidae ).

Ecology

Breitlingssalmler are very common in many rivers, forming a large proportion of the fish population. Therefore, they are important for the diet of predatory fish and other fish-eating animals and are also fished by humans. Breitlingssalmler feed on organic deposits, algae and detritus. Some species take in large schools walks into their spawning areas.
