Curt Wittlin

Curt Wittlin Joseph (* 1941 in Reinach ) is a Swiss linguist and expert on the medieval Catalan language and literature.

Life

Wittlin studied Ibero-Romance Philology, French Linguistics and Italian literature at the University of Basel with Germà Colon, and later in Paris, Florence and Barcelona. He received his doctorate in 1965 with a dissertation on Guillem de Copons ' Catalan translation of Brunetto Latini treasure. He was Professor of Romance Philology and Historical Linguistics at the University of Saskatchewan ( Saskatoon, Canada), to which he was introduced in 1967.

He specialized in the edition of medieval translations of texts of Cicero, Augustine of Hippo and John of Wales ' among others He has also worked on Ramon Llull and the history of the medieval Catalan libraries. In addition, he is interested in the medieval Catalan writer Francesc Eiximenis. Almost all modern editions of his works have been concerned by Curt Wittlin. In addition, Wittlin has written numerous studies and articles on Francesc Eiximenis.

In 1997 he became a member of the Institute of Catalan Studies. From 1990 to 1993 he was president of the North American Catalan Society. 2000 awarded him the regional Catalan government the Creu de Sant Jordi price.
