Curtina is a small town in Uruguay.

Geography

It is located on the territory of the department of Tacuarembó in its sector 2, a few kilometers east of the border Nachbardepartamento Salto. It lies about 50 kilometers south of the capital of the department with which it is connected via the Ruta 5. The distance to the state capital Montevideo is 336 km, to lying on the Brazilian border Rivera just 124 kilometers. In the south of the Arroyo Malo Curtinas passes, at which there is the Paso Colman. North of the village extends the Cuchilla Aguará. Here lies the Cerro Arbolito. The western area is referred to as Cuchilla Divisoria, while the area south of Route 5 is named Cuchilla de la Pampa. There flows with the Arroyo Calengo a right-side tributary of the Arroyo Malo.

History

Curtina, originally known as San Máximo, was by legal decree ( Ley 3189 ) and founded the order taking place in the official classification status " Pueblo " on July 5, 1907 due to private initiative. Formerly it was the capital of the Sección Judicial Arroyo Malo.

Infrastructure

On the road network and thus the cross-regional bus network Curtina is connected via the Ruta 5, at the kilometer point 334 it is. The connected to the water supply, the electricity and telephone network place has both two educational institutions as well as a police station, a health clinic, a post office, three sacral buildings and a cemetery. A football field is also available.

Curtina is located in a region where forestry is the main economic activity.

Curtina has 1,037 inhabitants (as of 2011), of which 534 male and 503 female.
