Cyril of Scythopolis

Cyril of Scythopolis (c. 524 in Scythopolis (Palestine ); † about 558 ) wrote as hagiographer several biographies of the great monastic fathers.

His religious parents were acquainted with Saba and directed Kyrillos education entirely on monasticism from. 542 he became a monk and lecturer. He should be guided by the advice of John Hesychastes in the Old Laura. 544 he entered the Euthymioskloster in Jerusalem. 554 he moved with companions in the New Laura, a former center of Origenists. Early 556, he moved into the big Sabas Laura.

In addition to the biographies of him personally known Sabas and John Hesychastes we owe to his pen the Life of Euthymius of Melitene, the anchorites Kyriakos, the Koinobiarchen Theodosius the Theognios and Abraham Krateias. His biographies are the main sources for the Palestinian monasticism in the fifth and sixth centuries.
