Dalmore is a distillery in Alness, Highland, Scotland.

History

The distillery was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson and leased to the Sunderland family. 1850 assumes Margret Sunderland line of Dalmore. 1867, the brothers Charles, Andrew and Alexander Mackenzie lead the distillery.

  • Dalmore is in 1870, the first malt whiskey which is exported to Australia.
  • 1874 expands the number of stills ( stills ) from two to four.
  • 1886 dies Alexander Matheson and 1891 Sir Kenneth Matheson sold the distillery for 14,500 pounds of the Mackenzie brothers.
  • 1917 pulls the Royal Navy at Dalmore a produce mines. As part of a distillery, the Navy is leaving Dalmore 1920 again damaged by an explosion. Because Andrew Mackenzie and the Royal Navy can not agree on compensation, Mackenzie performs the procedure down to the House of Lords.
  • In 1922 the whiskey production begins again. 1956 Malting Floors be replaced by a Saladin box. 1960 is the Dalmore - Whyte & Mackay Ltd.. from the merger of Mackenzie Brothers ( Dalmore ) Ltd.. Whyte & Mackay Ltd and the. founded.
  • 1966 the number of stills of four will be extended to eight. 1982 Saladin box is disabled and has since bought the malt of foreign malt houses.
  • 1990 buys Whyte & Mackay and American Brands changes its name in 1996 JBB (Greater Europe). Following a management buy-out the company bought in 2001 by Fortune Brands and renamed Kyndal Spirits. 2002 you were rowing back and renames itself back into Whyte & Mackay.
  • 2004, a new visitor center is opened.
  • 2007 Whyte & Mackay and thus bought the distillery Dalmore, Isle of Jura, Fettercairn and Tamnavulin for 595 million pounds of United Spirits Limited, a subsidiary of the Indian The UB Group.

Production

The water belonging to the Highlands / Northern Highlands distillery comes from the River Alness. The malt is purchased from foreign maltings ( Bairds Malt, Inverness ). The distillery has a mash tun ( mash do ) (9.2 tons ) of stainless steel fermentation tanks and eight (wash backs) ( per 49,500 liters ) of Douglas fir wood. Is distilled into four wash stills (two of which 16,500 liters each, and two of them to each 8,250 liters) and four spirit stills (two each 11,364 liters and two of them to each 7,340 liters ) which are heated by steam.

Samples

For years, the 12 -year-old was the only original bottling of Dalmore on the market. Since 2002 there is also a 21 -year-olds, a 30 -year-olds ( for the North American market) and the Cigar Malt.

2002, a 62 -year-old Dalmore was sold in an auction at McTear's for 25,877 pounds sterling and was at that time so that the most expensive bottle of whiskey in the world.
