Damjan Fras

Career

Fras began in 1980 with the ski jumping. From 1990 he was active in the World Cup and Continental Cup. In his career, he won several medals at World Championships and Olympic Games.

His World Cup debut in the then just 17 years old from Slovenia on 24 March 1990 to the home hill in Planica. Just one week later was able to win in the team Fras at the Junior World Championships in Štrbské Pleso for Slovenia bronze. The following year he won on March 9, 1991 with the Junior World Championships bronze medal in the individual competition, Gold then took Martin Höllwarth for Austria. His first full World Cup season, he played in the 1991 / 92nd Because of his consistent performances he was allowed to participate in the Olympic Games in Albertville, where he finished in 42nd place on the large hill. After that, it was rather quiet around the young Slovenes.

In the years 1993-1998 Fras jumped predominantly in the Continental Cup. From 1994-1997, he finished in the standings the ranks 20, 32, 15 and 58 in 1998 succeeded in finally finally the breakthrough: Ranked 3 in the overall standings behind Alexander and Mr. Falko Krismayr, the then 25 -year-old recommended again for the World Cup. As one of the performers managed to finish in 5th place him at the 1999 World Cup in Ramsau with Slovenia. Furthermore, he managed to qualify on both the small and the large hill for the final of the top 30. In 2000 followed the first participation in a ski flying World Championships, where he was able to occupy the 45th rank. In the same season he also reached his first top-10 place (9th in Iron Mountain ). In the 2000/2001 season he succeeds next to a 5th place while jumping in Innsbruck 5th and 6th ranks with the team at the World Championships in Lahti. Finally, in the summer of 2001 he was able to finally create the connection to the world's best with a sixth overall place in the Summer Grand Prix.

After a strong season was Damjan Fras by winning Olympic bronze medal on 18 February 2002 in the team along with Primoz Peterka, Robert Kranjec and Peter Žonta one of the most successful Slovenian ski jumper. In the following season, he could again draw attention to themselves with some top positions. Due to good results, he qualified for the World Cup, where he finally took on the normal hill Rank 35. Due to modest results in the season 2003/ 04 he was transferred in January 2004 in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup. In 2006 he played his last forces in the Continental Cup.
