Dan Barto (also: Dan Barto ) is a rural municipality in the Department Kantché in Niger.

Geography

Dan Barto is located in the Sahel region and is bordered on the southeast by the neighboring state of Nigeria. The neighboring communities in Niger are Hawandawaki the northwest, Tsaouni in the north, the east and Kourni Sassoumbroum in the southeast. The municipality is divided into 36 administrative villages, nine traditional villages, 72 hamlets and five storage. The main town of the rural community is Dan Barto, consisting of the administrative villages Dan Barto I and II Dan Barto

History

The rural municipality Dan Barto went out in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform a part of the canton Kantché.

Population

At the 2001 census, Dan Barto had 28,911 inhabitants. For the year 2010 39.255 inhabitants were calculated. In Dan Barto members of the mainly agriculture based Hausa subgroup Katsinawa and specializing in Agropastoralismus Fulbe subgroup Daourawa live.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality is located in that narrow zone along the border with Nigeria, ranging from Tounouga in the west to the east Malawa and operated in irrigated crop production for cash crops. By Dan Barto, the National Highway 10 that connects the border town with the departmental capital Kantché and in the other direction leads to the border with Nigeria runs. The metropolis of Kano in Nigeria is about 150 kilometers by road from the main village Dan Barto.
