Dan-Kassari

Dan Kassari (also: Dan Kassari, Dankassari ) is a rural municipality in the Department Dogondoutchi in Niger.

Geography

Dan Kassari located at the junction of the Sahel to large landscape and Sudan to the southeast to the neighboring state of Nigeria. The neighboring communities in Niger are Dogonkiria in the north, the east, and Allela Dogondoutchi, Kiéché and Matankari in the West. The municipality is divided into 18 administrative villages, 110 villages and 16 hamlets traditional. The main town of the country church is the administrative village Dan Kassari.

History

The rural community of Dan - Kassari went as an administrative unit 2002 through the course of a nationwide administrative reform from the southeastern part of the canton Dogondoutchi.

Population

At the 2001 census Dan Kassari had 53 967 inhabitants. For the year 2010 72.274 inhabitants were calculated.

Policy

In the local elections in July 2004 Oumarou Roho ( PNDS - Tarayya ) was elected mayor.

Culture and sights

In the administrative village Lougou in the municipality of Dan - Kassari is the residence of the Sarraounia, a traditional ruler and religious leader of the Azna. 2006 requested the Niger State at UNESCO intake of Lougou in the World Heritage List.

Economy and infrastructure

In the south of the municipality of irrigation crop production is operated, the north part of a zone, prevailing in the rain-fed agriculture. The agricultural activities in Dan - Kassari are affected by declining rainfall and soil degradation. There are six markets in the municipality. In education, two middle schools that are located in the administrative villages Dan Kassari and Goubey, and 61 primary schools are available. Dan Kassari is located on National Road 1, which here is part of the international highway Dakar - N'Djamena -highway. It is the only paved road in the municipality.

The French mathematician Marie -Françoise Roy is president of an organization which campaigns for solidarity activities between Dan Kassari and the French community Chantepie.
