Danbury (Essex)

Danbury is a village in the City of Chelmsford in Essex in the East of England. It is located around 40 km north-east of London.

According to the latest census, living in the village of about 6,500 people. Danbury is surrounded by large areas of forest, most of which belong to the National Trust. However, through the middle of the town center leads the A414, which runs from London to the North.

History

The town of Danbury goes back to the founding of a pre-Christian Wallburg. Findings suggest a first settlement in the Iron Age. After Romans and Anglo-Saxons, the area around Danbury was conquered in the 11th century by the Danish tribes. After the conquest of England by William the Conqueror in 1066 the land around Danbury was first settled by the Normans.

The oldest building still standing today, is the Church of St. John the Baptist, which was built in the 13th century.
