Daniel Edward Pilarczyk

Daniel Edward Pilarczyk ( born August 12, 1934 in Dayton, Ohio) is an American Roman Catholic theologian, who was most recently 1982-2009 Archbishop of Cincinnati.

Life

Study and Titular Bishop of Hodelm

After school he first attended the seminary of Saint Gregory in Cincinnati, where he graduated in 1953. He then studied 1953-1961 Philosophy at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome, where he initially an undergraduate degree in philosophy in 1955 and then earned a licentiate. After acquiring a bachelor's degree in theology in 1958 took place on 20 December 1959, this ordination.

He then continued his studies at the Pontifical Urban University in 1960 and earned a licentiate in theology before he became in 1961 a doctoral thesis Doctor Theologiae. A subsequent post-graduate degree in Classical Studies at Xavier University of Cincinnati, he graduated in 1965 with a Master of Arts ( MA Classics ) and finally acquired a 1969 Philosophy Doctor ( Ph.D. Classics ) at the University of Cincinnati.

Between November 12, 1974 and October 30, 1982 he was not only Bishop in Cincinnati and Titular Bishop of Hodelm, but at the same time trustee ( Trustee ) of the Athenaeum of Ohio, the third-oldest Roman Catholic seminary in the United States.

Archbishop of Cincinnati

Subsequently, he was was on 20 December 1982 as a successor to Joseph Bernardin, archbishop of Chicago, Archbishop of Cincinnati. On June 15, 1993, he consecrated Carl Kevin Moeddel Auxiliary Bishop of Cincinnati, who held this office until his illness resignation on 20 June 2007.

In this role, he was also, until his retirement on 21 December 2009, Chancellor of the Athenaeum of Ohio. In addition, he was the first from 1983 to 1991 and later between 1997 and 2000 Trustees of the Catholic University of America.

As the successor of John Lawrence May, Archbishop of Saint Louis, he was also from 1989 to 1992 chairman of the U.S. bishops' conference and gave this office subsequently to the Archbishop of Baltimore William Henry Keeler.
