Danielle de Picciotto

Danielle de Picciotto ( born February 19, 1965) is a Berlin-based American multi-media artist. She works as a painter, illustrator, musician, author and filmmaker, her work has been exhibited internationally. In 1987, she moved from New York City to Berlin. Along with her then-boyfriend Matthias Roeingh - aka Dr. Motte - she initiated on July 1, 1989, the first Love Parade in Berlin.

Life

As a singer she was from 1990 to 1995 a member of the Berlin-based band Space Cowboys. She established in 1997 together with Gudrun Gut the Ocean Club (an open place, are presented in the art and music - later, the project turned into a radio broadcast). She participated in 1995-2000 instrumental in the " Berlin club culture art " movement as an artist / curator and founded in 1998 as "the Institute ", a gallery in which she represented more than 150 artists, musicians and writers. In 1999, she founded the regular exhibition and event series "Art or king" and presented Berlin artists, musicians and DJs in an international setting in group exhibitions, concerts and cultural projects - often in collaboration with the Goethe Institute (Rome, Milan, Naples, Hong Kong, Osaka, Tokyo, Sarajevo). In 2005, she initiated "Art or Queen ", an exhibition series in which only artists are introduced. In 2005 she produced together with Alexander Hacke and the Tiger Lillies audiovisual stage play Mountains of Madness.

In 2006, she married her longtime partner Alexander Hacke, the bassist of the band Einstürzende Neubauten.
