Danish Handball Federation

The Dansk Håndbold Forbund (short DHF) is the national sport governing body for the sport of handball in Denmark and has its seat at Idraettens Hus ( House of Sport ) in Brøndby. He is the umbrella organization for 885 clubs where over 124,000 members are active (as of 2010). Founded in 1935, The DHF is one of around 60 sports federations of the Danish Sports Association and a founding member of the International Handball Federation (IHF ) in 1946 and their European continental federation, the EHF in 1991.

In addition to the DHF Handball is played in Denmark and in other organizations, including the second largest sports federation in the country, the Danske gymnastics -og Idrætsforeninger ( DGI), the Workers' Sports Association ( Dansk Arbejder Idrætsforbund, DAI), the Danish YMCA Sports Association ( KFUMs Idrætsforbund ) and in operating sports association Dansk company Idrætsforbund ( DFIF ).

Structure

The DHF is divided into the three regional associations:

  • Håndbold region Øst (HRO ) based in Greve for Zealand, Lolland- Falster and Bornholm,
  • Funen Håndbold Forbund ( FHF ), headquartered in Odense for Fyn and
  • Jydsk Håndbold Forbund ( JHF ), headquartered in Viby Jutland, which is additionally organized in eight circles.

History

Handball in Denmark began as a school sport in the 1890s and a first public school tournament in 1904 in Randers. Although the country is thus counted as one of the pioneering countries of handball, setting up their own association only took place on June 2, 1935. In the field handball, played with eleven players until 1959 ( women until 1960 ) and in the Sevens team until 1972, took place on 20 August 1934 in Copenhagen, the first international match of a Danish men's national team. Danish Championships

In March 1936 Danish title was determined in Aarhus for the first time, the championships were officially recognized until three years later by the Danish National Sports Association. Until the season 1946/47, the district champion met each other here in a weekend tournament, then the league system was in the highest class, today's Håndboldligaen introduced. The game of the second division began operating in the season 1952/53, which was divided for six years from the end of the 1950s until the early 1960s in two areas on either side of the Great Belt. Handball World Cup and European Championships in Denmark
