Danjaq

The Danjaq, LLC (formerly Danjaq S. A. ) is a holding company based in Santa Monica, California, which is responsible for the copyright and trademark of James Bond characters, products and other materials. Danjaq is currently owned by the family of Albert R. " Cubby " Broccoli, one of the two founders of the successful James Bond film series. To Danjaq includes the company Eon Productions Ltd. , Which produces the James Bond films.

Danjaq was founded in 1962 by Harry Saltzman and Broccoli, after the first James Bond film, James Bond Dr. No, was released. The company got the name of Danjaq SA, which was derived from the first names of the wives of Broccoli and Saltzman ( Dana and Jacqueline ).

Due to financial difficulties, Saltzman sold in 1975 its share of Danjaq to United Artists. From 1977 began with the film The Spy Who Loved Me, a division of copyright between Danjaq and United Artists, which allegedly continues to this day.

Some, such as John Cork, author of several books on the history of Bond films and producer of documentaries for the Special Edition DVD, claiming that broccoli had bought this share about ten years later. Cork hinted further that MGM / UA has an exclusive rental business with Danjaq.

Although the product rights of the Bond film material are held by Danjaq, the copyright for the movies are (starting with Dr. No ) with Danjaq and UA. The trademarks, which have to do with the Bond books, are held by Ian Fleming Publications.
