Danny Gatton

Danny Gatton ( September 4, 1945 in Washington, DC; † October 4, 1994 in Newburg ( Maryland)) was an American guitarist.

He played in a wide range of styles from rock to jazz, blues and rockabilly. Gatton was chosen by Rolling Stone magazine on the 63rd of the " 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time ".

Career

Danny Gatton began playing guitar as a teenager. His father, Daniel W. Gatton worked as a rhythm guitarist, but gave the musician's life in favor of his family.

In the 1970s, Danny Gatton gained as a guitarist and banjo player in the group " Liz Meyer & Friends " first awareness. In the late 1970s and 1980s he performed both as a soloist as well as with the group " Redneck Jazz Explosion ".

The title song of his album 88 Elmira Street was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category " Best Rock Instrumental Performance ", but was then beaten by Eric Johnson with " Cliffs of Dover ".

Gatton played predominantly Telecaster guitars. His skills on the guitar have been praised by Eric Clapton, Willie Nelson, Steve Earle and his childhood idol Les Paul. Gatton played with Alvin Lee and Jimmie Vaughan.

On October 4, 1994, Gatton joined in his garage in Newburg (Maryland) and shot himself.

In January 1995, City was in the " Tramps club" in New York organized a tribute concert for three evenings.
