System

The genus Daphniphyllum was erected in 1827 by Carl Ludwig Blume, 1869, it was placed in the family of Daphniphyllaceae. Within the Saxifrage -like the closer relationships are still unclear, as the sister group of Daphniphyllum both cakes trees ( Cercidiphyllaceae ) and peony plants ( Paeoniaceae ) were called. The genus includes depending on the author between ten to more than 30 species. The only occasionally in Central Europe cultivated as ornamental tree species is Daphniphyllum macropodum.
