Dara Howell

Dara Howell ( born August 23, 1994 Huntsville, Ontario ) is a Canadian freestyle skier. She's since 11 February 2014, the first Olympic champion in ski slopestyle.

Biography

Howell was born in Huntsville, Ontario. She attended for four years in her hometown of the Huntsville High School, before she started a correspondence course on Tawingo College in fall 2012.

Sporting career

Howell belongs to the Hidden Valley Highlands in Huntsville, Ontario since the winter of 2010 for the Muskoka Ski Club. Previously, she was part of the cross-country skiing team of Arrowhead Nordic Ski Club at Shaw Lake, Muskoka.

She celebrated for the Muskoka Ski Club you slopestyle debut at the national championships in March 2011 in the U.S. Stratton Mountain Ski Resort in Vermont. Nine months later, in December 2011, it was also her World Cup debut at Copper Mountain in Summit County, Colorado. There followed the first success in which they in March 2012 won the silver medal at the X Games in Tignes French. In the X-Games in January 2013 in Aspen, Colorado, and in March 2013 in the French Tignes Howell won bronze medals. In the freestyle skiing World Cup 2013 in the Norwegian Voss, she won the silver medal. She graduated in 2013 with the 30 square off in the overall standings.

At age 19, she took in February 2014 in part at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 and won the gold medal in the Ski Slopestyle competition of the women there. She dedicated the Olympic victory, the 2012 deceased compatriot Sarah Burke. Their victory was overshadowed by the heavy fall of her countrywoman and native Japanese Yuki Tsubota who pulled a broken jaw.
