Dárius Rusnák

Darius Rusnák ( born December 2, 1959 in Ružomberok, Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czechoslovak ice hockey player and coach, as well as of present - functionary, who played in the position of striker. His son Ondrej is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Rusnák began his career as a child at Iskra Banská Bystrica, before joining the junior age Spartak BEZ Bratislava. At the age of 17 he moved to city rivals Slovan Bratislava CHZJD for which he in the top division of Czechoslovakia, the first league debut. In the following years, he established himself in the team and was in March 1979 on the first Slovak team that won the Czechoslovak league titles. In the 1980s, he was one of the most important players of his team and trained with the two wingers Ján Jaško and Marián Bezák the first storm series of Slovan.

In the season 1987/88 he went to the Army Sports Club Dukla Jihlava on the ice before he returned for a final season to Slovan Bratislava. In total he scored 186 goals in 436 games in the highest Czechoslovak league. Rusnák spent his last four seasons with the Finnish club KalPa Kuopio, for whom he scored 79 goals in the SM- liiga in 169 games.

Internationally

Addition to his success at club level Rusnák was in the 1980 regular players of the Czechoslovakian national team. He usually played it along with two other Slovaks, Vincent Lukáč and Igor Liba, in a forward line.

Among his greatest successes was the Olympic silver medal at the Winter Games in Sarajevo in 1984 and the gold medal at the World Championships 1985 in Prague. Overall, he scored 68 goals in 156 internationals.

Coaching career and functionary activity

Following his playing career Rusnák worked from 1993 to 1995 as an assistant coach for his former club HC Slovan Bratislava in the Extraliga newly established. In the seasons 1995/96 and 1998/99 he worked as a manager for each of his former club Banská Bystrica in the Extraliga. Since 2006 member of the Executive Committee of the Rusnák Slovak Ice Hockey Association and in that capacity for regional development of hockey in Slovakia is responsible. In 2009 he was inducted into the Slovak Hockey Hall of Fame.
