Daugavpils Municipality

The district Daugavpils ( Daugava novads ) is an administrative district in the south-eastern Latvia.

Population

2009 joined together 19 municipalities in the former county Daugavpils, to form the district of the same name. The city of Daugavpils ( German: Dvinsk ) was an independent " Republic City " and not part of the district. Nevertheless, the administration building is located in the urban area. In the district are 28 211 inhabitants registered (as of 1 July 2010). With 1877.6 km ² of the district is geographically one of the largest in Latvia. The area is rural. Larger towns are Līksna, Demene or Dubna.
