Ventspils Municipality

The district Ventspils (Ventspils novads ) is a 2009 incurred administrative district in the west of Latvia. The administration building is located in Ventspils although this city itself is not as so-called Republic City to the district.

Population

In the course of administrative reform of the administrative district Ventspils was dissolved in 2009. 12 rural communities and the city Piltene came together to form an administrative community. 2010 were reported 13510 inhabitants.

Nature

Through the area, the rivers flow Venta, Abava Užava, Irbe and Lūžupe. The two largest lakes are the Usma Lake and the Puze Lake. In the west, the Baltic Sea coast. The oldest nature reserve in Latvia (1912 ), namely the reserve Moricsala, is also located partially within the territory.
