Davey Johnstone

Davey Johnstone ( born May 6, 1951 in Edinburgh, Scotland) is a Scottish guitarist. He is with few interruptions since 1971 member of the band by Elton John.

Johnstone worked from 1968 to 1969 as a studio and live musician with the Irish folk musician Noel Murphy together. In 1969, he joined, first as a studio musician, the band Magna Carta and was there engaged in three plate productions. He played at that time already numerous instruments (including guitar, banjo, mandolin and sitar ).

1970, the producer Gus Dudgeon became aware of Johnstone and hired him for the first solo album by Elton John's lyricist Bernie Taupin. 1971, the album Madman Across the Water, Johnstone was the first time working as a guitarist in the band of Elton John. Along with Nigel Olsson (drums) and Dee Murray (bass ), he also sang backing vocals on the very successful albums by Elton John in the early 1970s.

In 1973 he released the solo album Smiling Face. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he worked with renowned artists such as Meat Loaf and Alice Cooper.

Since 1982, Johnstone is again almost constantly engaged on the side of Elton John. In 1990, he played together with some accompanying musicians Johns under the band name " Warpipes " the album Holes in Heaven one. In 1999 he published jointly with John Jorgenson, at that time also a guitarist in Elton John's band, an album of instrumental pieces.

Since 2000, Davey Johnstone is also the musical director for recordings and tours by Elton John.

On 10 June 2009, Davey Johnstone played in his native Scotland Glasgow to 2,000 times on the side of Elton John.
