David Beasley

David Muldrow Beasley ( born February 26, 1957 in Lamar, South Carolina) is an American politician. He was between 1995 and 1999 Governor of South Carolina.

Early years and political rise

David Beasley attended until 1975 the Lamar High School, he studied until 1978 at Clemson University microbiology. It was followed by a law degree from the University of South Carolina. Originally Beasley was a member of the Democratic Party, but he moved very early to the Republicans. Between 1979 and 1992 he was a deputy in the regional parliament of South Carolina, in the last two years as Deputy Speaker of the House. There he served in various committees. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of South Carolina (1990-1991) and Francis Marion College ( 1988-1991).

Governor of South Carolina

In 1994, Beasley was nominated by the Republican Party top candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election. He won the election with 50.4 % of the vote against his Democratic opponent Nick Theodore. As Governor, he sat down for the economic development of his country, prison reform and improved education policy a. During his tenure, 11 billion investments have been made in South Carolina for $, which led to the creation of 50,000 new jobs. In the education sector, the teachers were increased salaries, increased the standards and designs the new curricula. Beasley was also a member of several associations governor.
