David Brinkley

David Brinkley (* July 10, 1920 in Wilmington, North Carolina, † June 11, 2003 in Houston, Texas ) was an American journalist, television presenter and author.

Life

In Wilmington, he attended New Hanover High School. and studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, at Emory University and Vanderbilt University. He then worked from 1941 to 1943 in the U.S. military. In 1943 he got a job at NBC News as a television presenter. From 1952 he worked for the evening news program of the NBC in Washington DC. From October 1956 to July 1970, he hosted together with Chet Huntley the successful television show Huntley - Brinkley Report; this program replaced the telecast Camel News Caravan, hosted by John Cameron Swayze. In addition to the Huntley - Brinkley Report Brinkley hosted from 1961 to 1963 the TV show, David Brinkley 's Journal what this program is a Peabody Award and two -time winner of the Emmy Awards. In 1970, his colleague Huntley stopped as moderator at NBC, he presented in the following years until 1979, the evening news program NBC Nightly News with John Chancellor and Frank McGee. After brief unsuccessful newscasts on NBC from 1979 to 1981 Brinkley left unhappy the NBC television network. Brinkley joined the U.S. television channel ABC, where he was the program This Week with David Brinkley hosted every Sunday morning. This successful show he hosted until November 1996.

Brinkley married in 1946 Ann Fischer and had with her three children. After his divorce he married in 1972 Susan Benfer Melanie.
