David L. Wolper

David Lloyd Wolper ( born January 11, 1928 in New York City, New York; † August 10, 2010 in Beverly Hills, California ) was an American producer of film and television movies. He produced about half a century documentaries and feature films and was one of the pioneers of docu-drama.

Life

David Wolper was an only child. He grew up as the son of businessman Irving S. Wolper, and Anna tap He had no middle name, but took Lloyd to distinguish him from his uncle of the same name. He studied one year at Drake University in Des Moines, another two years at the University of Southern California and then dropped out of college to become active in the film business. He was married three times and left the sons Mark and Michael and daughter Leslie.

Exceptional achievements were the miniseries Roots ( 1977), The Thorn Birds (1983) and North and South, movies such as The Bridge at Remagen (1969 ), LA Confidential ( 1997) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1971).

He was also a member of the Executive Committee of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee and thus involved in the organization of the 1984 Summer Olympics.
