David Salle

David Salle ( born 1952 in Norman, Oklahoma) is an American artist who works with the media of painting and printmaking and as a set designer.

Life and work

David Salle graduated from the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California with an MFA from. There he studied under John Baldessari. Salles work gained public interest for the first time in the early 1980s.

His Malereie and prints seem to involve random composite and each overlaying image elements, which Salle had become the post-modern artist par excellence.

David Salle also deals with platforms and costume artistic work, where he has designed many sets for the choreographer Karole Armitage. He also turned the commercial cinema film Search and Destroy, playing in the Griffin Dunne, Ethan Hawke, Dennis Hopper, John Turturro and Christopher Walken.

Exhibitions

Solo exhibitions, among others, at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, Castello di Rivoli Turin shown, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hannover.
