John Baldessari

John Baldessari ( born June 17, 1931 in National City, California) is an American artist and a major representative of the current conceptual and media art.

Life

At the beginning of his career was the painting, but it burned in 1970 in the sensational " Cremation Project" all of its incurred 1953-1966 paintings and devoted himself from that point on working with images and languages ​​and the different types ( AC - ) relations between these two forms of expression.

Through his pictures, photographs, video performances, collages, cut-ups and ultimately through his conceptual art of the artist examines the mechanisms of (media) representation. His works have been shown in more than 120 international solo exhibitions and over 300 group exhibitions.

John Baldessari lives and works in Santa Monica, California. He taught at the California Institute of the Arts and at the University of California, Los Angeles.
