David Shand (bishop)

David Hubert Warner Shand (* April 6, 1921; † July 8, 2011 ) was an Australian Anglican clergyman and an assistant bishop of the Anglican Church of Australia.

Life

After schooling Shand attended a seminary of the Anglican Church, and since 1948 his ordination to the priesthood. Following this, he was deputy minister and Kaplan ( Assistant Curate ) of Lutwyche in Brisbane before he worked for many years in numerous parishes in Brisbane. He then worked from 1966 to 1969 pastor of South Yarra and then 1969-1973 by Brightin, two suburban districts of Melbourne.

1973 he was appointed Bishop of St. Arnaud before this diocese in 1976 assigned to the diocese of Bendigo. Between 1974 and 1984 he was also Chairman of the Supreme Authority of the Anglican Church of Australia for religious education. He then returned to Melbourne, where he was pastor of Mt Waverley first and then from 1978 to 1985 was assistant bishop for the southern region. During this time he was also from 1983 to 1985 Chairman of the Christian Association for television.

Most recently, he was from 1985 until his retirement in 1988 Assistant Bishop of Geelong.
