David T. Abercrombie

David Thomas Abercrombie ( born June 6 1867 in Baltimore, Maryland; † August 29, 1931 in Ossining, New York) was the founder of the company Abercrombie & Fitch. He founded the company in New York and led it with Ezra Fitch over the years.

Life

David Thomas Abercrombie was on June 6, 1867 in Baltimore ( Maryland) was born as the son of John and Elizabeth Abercrombie. After attending a private school in Baltimore, he studied at the Baltimore City College and became an engineer.

On August 29, 1931 Jack passed away in Ossining (New York) at the age of 64 years.

Abercrombie & Fitch Co.

On June 4, 1892 David T. Abercrombie founded Abercrombie Co. with the opening of a small shop on South Street in Manhattan (New York). The New York lawyer Ezra H. Fitch was one of his regular customers.

In 1900, Ezra Fitch bought shares of the growing company. 1904 followed the renamed " Abercrombie & Fitch Co. ". Later Abercrombie and Fitch got into a dispute due to expansion visions by Fitch. Jack wanted to keep the business in the original format. This debate was perhaps the reason why Abercrombie left the company in 1907 and sold his share Ezra Fitch.
