David Trueba

David Trueba Rodríguez ( born September 10, 1969 in Madrid ) is a Spanish writer, journalist, screenwriter, actor and director.

Life

David Trueba is a brother of film director, screenwriter and film producer Fernando Trueba.

He studied journalism at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1992 and took a screenwriting course at the American Film Institute. Even before this trip he worked for television programs Sopa de gansos and Querido Rafael as a song writer, a journalist for the newspapers El País and El Mundo and screenwriter.

In 1996 he was, according to some scenarios, first time director in the film La buena vida.

In 2004, the documentary Balseros in which Trueba had co-written the screenplay and co-produced the film, nominated for an Oscar. Soldados de Salamina was indeed sent from Spain as a candidate for Best Foreign Language Film, but received no nomination. In the same year he became Vice President of the Academia Española de Cine he held until 2007.

In 2008 he was honored for his novel Saber perder the Premio de la Crítica.

Since 1995 Trueba was, in different categories, more nominations for the Goya. In 2014 he was awarded the Goya for best director and best screenplay for his film Vivir con los ojos cerrados it fácil, which was also named best film.
