David Whitton

David Whitton is a Scottish politician and member of the Labour Party.

Life

Whitton attended the Morgan Academy in Dundee and was then for the publishing house DC Thomson worked. He then moved to Fife Free Press and the Evening Express in Aberdeen. After having worked three years for the Scotsman went Whitton first to the journal Daily Record and was then from 1986 to 1996 worked for Scottish Television. There he held several positions, including as a correspondent at the House of Commons, reporter and news producer. Whitton is married and a father of two and grandfather.

Political career

In the late 1990s Whitton was personal adviser and spokesman for the first First Minister Donald Dewar. On 11 October 2000 Whitton announced the nation Dewars death and held at the funeral the grave speech.

In the Scottish Parliament elections in 2007 Whitton first appeared on to national elections. He applied for the direct mandate of the constituency of Strathkelvin and Bearsden that his party colleague Brian Fitzpatrick had lost in the previous elections to the independent candidate Jean Turner. He could win the mandate for, and went for the first time in the Scottish Parliament. In the shadow cabinet of the Labour Party Whitton was assigned as Deputy Minister of Finance, sustainable growth and skills and acted on these departments as deputy party spokesman. In the 2011 parliamentary elections, he lost despite vocal profits from his position on the SNP candidate Fiona McLeod and retired from the parliament from.
