DBAG Class 474

In series 474/874 is an electric railcar specially for the Hamburg S- Bahn network.

History

The first series of 45 vehicles was 1994 Left -Hofmann -Busch as the lead of the consortium Linke- Hofmann -Busch ( mechanical section ) and the former ABB Henschel AG ( Electrical and I & C ) in Salzgitter ordered and delivered from 1996. In 1997 he was presented to the press. The second series of 58 vehicles was appointed in 1996 and the Bw Hamburg- Ohlsdorf delivered until 2001.

Technology

The Series 474 is at the Hamburg S -Bahn a New Generation of vehicles represents the current is supplied as before with a side- coated conductor rail which is attached to the side of the track. The vehicles are powered by this power rail with DC voltage level 1,200 V. The drives come first liquid-cooled three-phase asynchronous motors, which are connected via a two-stage gearbox with the axes used. For the operation of asynchronous motors on DC power liquid-cooled GTO inverters are used. The vehicles of the series 474 are approved for a maximum speed of 100 km / hr. They are consistently controlled by computers, which replaced the previously in older Hamburger series 470 and 472 prevailing conventional control. The control data are no longer on individual lines, but via serial bus ( vehicle bus is DVB, train bus is WTB ) transmitted. Therefore, it is not possible with those of the series 474 to drive the vehicles of the older series in mixed units. The vehicles are - like their predecessors types - equipped with a Scharfenberg coupler, which is such that a mechanical coupling possibility of an adapter coupling ( for example, for towing operations ) with the previous series.

Multi-system version 474.3

In the years 2006 and 2007, the series was delivered 474.3, which is composed of nine new vehicles and 33 converted from existing vehicles of the second series trains. The vehicles are also equipped for catenary operation with traction power 15 kV 16.7 Hz. For this purpose, the means cars were given a current collector for the overall management and the entire high -voltage equipment including four-quadrant, which generate the required for running the direct current from the down -transformed alternating current of the contact wire and allow recovery of braking energy into traction power network. The 15- kV pantograph is referred to in the series 474.3 to distinguish it from the side pantographs for DC operation only as a pantograph. The multiple units of class 474.3 traveled since December 2007, on the Lower Elbe train instead of the powered locomotives with regional trains the section from Hamburg ( Neugraben ) to Stade.

474 Plus

Under this designation, the S- Bahn Hamburg GmbH plans refurbishment of all vehicles in the series 474th This passages between the vehicle parts are created and new passenger information systems, and air conditioners are installed. In the middle car, a multi-purpose area is set up and the door area is provided with a new anti-crushing safety edge and a light grid. A first prototype was presented to the press in July 2011 at the depot Ohlsdorf, after which an authorization procedure is to be initiated. This should take about a year. With the start of the modernization of the remaining vehicles was initially expected in 2012. In the autumn of 2009, but started to replace the seat cushion. This increase seating comfort and make it difficult to vandalism.

The conversion in series will cost about one million euros per train. Funding for this project has not yet been clarified. Here talks with the states of Hamburg, Lower Saxony and Schleswig -Holstein are still run. According to media reports of mid-2013, the start may be delayed until the first copies of the DB Class 490 shipped.

The project will serve a total of a qualitative improvement and thus an increase in passenger numbers.

Planned procurement of a new generation

As new vehicles as of July 2013, delivered from 2016 a total of 60 trains of the DB Class 490. They should be up in December 2018 and replace all delivered 52 copies of the BR 472. Thus, they would be parallel to the BR 474 from 2016 in use.
