Debar Municipality

The Opština Debar ( Macedonian Општина Дебар; Albanian Komuna e Dibrës ) is one of the 84 Opštini Macedonia and located in the extreme west of the country on the border with Albania. Capital is the city of Debar.

Geography

With 145.67 km ² area the Opština one of the smaller of the country. It is bordered to the north by Mavrovo and Rostusa, to the east by Drugovo, on the southeast by Debarca and Struga, on the south by Centar Zupa and the Debarsee and to the west by the Republic of Albania in Qark Dibra. The Opština Debar is part of the Statistical Region Southwest.

At the village Konjari is the westernmost point of Macedonia.

In the 2002 census, 19,542 residents were determined for the Opština Debar. The population density was thus 134.15 inhabitants / km ². Ethnically to 11,348 people known as Albanians ( 58.07 %), 3,911 Macedonians as ( 20.01% ), 2,684 as Turkish ( 13.73 %) and 1,599 gave a different ethnic group ( 8.19% ).

Structure

To Opština Debar include not only the main town, 18 additional localities: Banište, Bomovo, Gari, Gorno Kosovrasti, Dolno Kosovrasti, Konjari, Krivci, Mogorče, Osoj, Otišani, Rajčica, Selokuči, spas, Tatar, Elevci, Trnanik, Hame and Džepište.
