Decatur is a city in DeKalb County in the U.S. state of Georgia. It was founded in 1823 and has since become the county seat of DeKalb County. Your name is reminiscent of the American national hero Stephen Decatur junior.

Decatur has 18,147 inhabitants ( 2000) on an area of 10.8 km ².

Education

The Decatur City School District, covers the entire metropolitan area, and maintains educational institutions from preschool through grade twelve, that consists of four Elementary School, a fourth and fifth grade Academy, a middle school and a high school.

The DeKalb County School District covers the unincorporated areas and serves in DeKalb County around Decatur and operates the renowned William Bradley Bryant Center ( WBBC ) in a partnership.
