Epigonus denticulatus

The deepwater cardinal fish ( Epigonidae ) belong to the perch family ( Percomorphaceae ). They live in the Mediterranean, the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Indian Ocean.

Features

The fish are depending on the type 3 to 75 inches long. Deepwater cardinal fish differ from the (not more closely related ) Cardinal perches ( Apogonidae ) by the number of vertebrae and other features of the bone structure. You have 25 vertebrae usually. Their dorsal and anal fins are covered with scales.

There are over 35 species of which belong to the genus Epigonus over 30. The remaining 6 classes each contain only one or two ways.
