Deggendorf–Kalteneck railway

The railway Deggendorf Kalteneck was a branch line in Bavaria. She joined the leading in the Bavarian Forest railway line from Plattling about Zwiesel to Bavarian Eisenstein with the leading of Passau forest churches to Freyung railway Passau Freyung ( Ilztalbahn ). Based on the forest railway platform Ling- Bavarian Eisenstein she was also called Vorwaldbahn.

Architectural History

After the construction of the forest railway Plattling about Deggendorf to Bavarian Eisenstein, completed in 1877, and the Ilztalbahn from Passau to Freyung, completed in 1892, targeted the communities between these lines, including Aicha, Eging am See and Tittling, a rail connection to. They favored a spur track of Vilshofen north. But a realization stood at a counter the steep slopes of the Danube valley and on the other the need for a bridge over the Danube. After a long struggle, the Bavarian State Railways decided to build a cross- connection between the two existing tracks as the cheaper option.

Thus, the Bavarian state parliament decided to build a single-track branch line from Deggendorf Eging Kalteneck with connection to the Ilztalbahn with Law 26 June 1908. Through these lines also Deggendorfer harbor and the market Hengersberg could be connected to the railway network. The liability for disputed basic assignments had Deggendorf and Passau Hengersberg assumed on the state railway.

The railway construction began in the summer of 1910 by two endpoints. This allowed the 11.62 km long route from Deggendorf to Hengersberg and the 20.75 km long stretch of Kalteneck after Eging be opened already on November 26, 1913, major celebrations. The middle piece, 21.66 km long, was on the eve of World War on 1 August 1914 with little fanfare in operation.

Train services

For the running of trains, the Bavarian local railway machines Bahnbetriebswerke Plattling and Passau were available. On the route Deggendorf Hengersberg ran in the first months of three daily services in each direction, between Eging and Kalteneck four pairs of trains. The initially employed after full commissioning by running four pairs of trains were gradually reduced to two pairs of trains during the First World War. Since these trains had to also take wagons to long run times were on the track. 1936 five pairs of trains ran on the track, where the evening in Eging trains from both directions ended that morning drove back again. 1976 ran the five pairs of trains only on weekdays. On Sundays, they were replaced by three Buskurse.

Closures

With the increase of individual user numbers also went on this railway line back constantly, although a number of stops in addition set up and the operation was converted to rail buses. The freight and cargo traffic also had to accept losses. So it was progressively extended to decommissioning. The first was the passenger that was set between Eging and Kalteneck on 1 October 1972. This was followed on June 3, 1973, the freight of Tittling to Kalteneck. It is remarkable that this section for occasional Umleiterverkehre was held from / to Freyung more than twenty years operational. The next shutdown again met the passenger, who was hired by Deggendorf to Eging on 25 September 1981. It was followed by the setting of freight from Eging to Tittling and, consequently, the total closure of the section Eging - Kalteneck on April 2, 1995. On 2 September 2002 the same fate befell the section Hengersberg - Eging. After dismantling the tracks the path was converted into a cycle path, which could be completely opened in 2006. At the 11.6 km long remaining stretch of Deggendorf Deggendorf Hbf via port after Hengersberg today still finds freight instead.

Current operation

The section of Deggendorf harbor (only) - Hengersberg is as a private siding in the possession of the DHB land GmbH Co. KG passed on September 1, 2007. This section is used for freight transport to the sawmill Schwaiger. The leg Deggendorf Deggendorf harbor main station also serves the freight to and from the Danube port.

There are suggestions the railway line to connect the 2014 State Garden Show site to use.
