Democratic Party of Serbia

The Demokratska stranka Srbije (Serbian Cyrillic Демократска странка Србије to German Democratic Party of Serbia, DSS, abbreviated ) is the other a branch of the political spectrum center-right sovereignist party in Serbia. She was until February 2012 associate member of the European People's Party.

History

Foundation

The DSS was founded in 1992, after a wing of the Democratic Party split off. The spin-off from the Democratic Party began shortly after the bloody anti - Milosevic demonstrations on March 9, 1991, when there were differences within the party.

The anniversary was the 26th July 1992. Vojislav Kostunica was appointed party president. On December 5, the party program and statutes have been established.

1992-1999

For the first time the party took part in the parliamentary elections of 1992. As part of the coalition with the DEPOS ( Democratic Movement of Serbia ), she received 18 seats in parliament. Soon after it came to differences within the coalition, as the regime of Milošević should be addressed. Mid-1993 left the DSS coalition.

In 1993, the party in early elections the seven seats in Parliament. 1996, a new coalition called Zajedno ( Together ) was formed. The taking place in the same year elections four seats have been achieved.

After 2000

In January 2000, the party was a member of the coalition DOS. In the elections, the coalition won 176 seats in parliament and Vojislav Kostunica became president. Zoran Djindjic became prime minister. In August 2001, the DSS left the government coalition.

In the elections in December 2003, a coalition of DSS 53 seats in parliament reached, 5 of which went to the other coalition parties. She went a party alliance with one of the G17 Plus and SPO -NS coalition to form the government. Vojislav Kostunica became Prime Minister.

In the early parliamentary elections of 2007, the DSS reached with the New Serbia party 47 seats in parliament. With the Democratic Party (DS ) and the G17 Plus they formed the government. Vojislav Kostunica remained head of government.

After Kostunica on March 8, announced his resignation, the party won the parliamentary elections in 2008 only 30 seats and now forms the opposition.
