Demonax

Demonax ( ancient Greek Δημώναξ, * in Cyprus) was a Greek philosopher of the Cynic school. He lived in the 2nd century AD in Athens.

Demonax is only known by Lucian same font that idealizes him. He does not seem humorous but to have been original, since he took over many punchlines by previous authors. According to Lucian, Diogenes of Sinope Demonax imitated in the life after. He took at the age of 100 years of life.

The lunar crater Demonax was named in 1935 by the IAU for him.
