Denis Berezovsky

Denys Walentynowytsch Beresowskyj (Ukrainian Денис Валентинович Березовський, born July 15, 1974 in Kharkiv, Ukraine ) is a former Ukrainian rear admiral and commander of the Ukrainian Navy.

Beresowskyj was between 2002 and 2005 the commander of the frigate Hetman Sahajdatschny, the flagship of the Ukrainian Navy. On 6 December 2012, he was promoted to Rear Admiral in Kiev and on March 1, 2014 interim president Olexandr Turchynov as successor to Yuri I. Ilyin appointed Commander in Chief of the Navy.

On March 2, 2014 one day after his appointment, he opposed the few days previously formed Ukrainian transitional government and assured the inhabitants of Crimea to his followers. Beresowskyj ordered the Ukrainian navy to surrender to the Russian armed forces. He was subsequently dismissed from the Ukrainian transitional government.

The Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office initiated proceedings for treason.
