Denis Matsuev

Denis Leonidovich Mazujew, also: Denis Matsuev (Russian Денис Леонидович Мацуев, born June 11, 1975 in Irkutsk ) is a Russian pianist.

Mazujew was born in the Siberian city of Irkutsk, the son of a family of musicians, he has already received his first piano lessons at age four. In 1991, he screwed up with his parents to Moscow and continued his musical education at the Moscow Conservatory. 1998 Mazujew won the Tchaikovsky Competition in the piano division.

Mazujew is presently considered as one of the most important Russian pianists, especially popular are his interpretations of the works of Sergei Rachmaninoff. He is also artistic director of the festival to be held in Irkutsk Baikal and Stars of the Moscow Crescendo Festival. Mazujew was awarded the title People's Artist of Russia. In May 2013 he performed at the inauguration of the new building of the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg.
