Denis Popov

Denis Alexandrovich Popov (Russian Денис Александрович Попов; born February 4, 1979 in Novorossiysk ) is a Russian football player. He currently stands at Premjer league relegated FK Khimki under contract. His most successful period were the first years of the 21st century, when he Russian Cup winner and one master, and between 2001 and 2003 five -time Russian national team was once each with CSKA Moscow. In 2008 he was top scorer of the second Russian league, the 1st Division.

Career

Popov was founded in 1996 with the club Chernomorets Novorossiysk from his hometown professional. He immediately became a regular player of the second team in the third league, but also led to two appearances in the Supreme League in 1996. 1997 he played at third -division club Kuban. In 1998 he went back to Chernomorets in the highest Russian league, but rather where he remained a reserve player as a star. Only by selling the old performers in the clubs around the turn of the millennium he moved on to the key players, which attracted the attention of large Moscow clubs on him, and eventually moved to CSKA Moscow for the season 2001.

With CSKA he matured quickly to international, in the summer of 2001 he came to his first two international appearances against Luxembourg and Greece. In the following two years, three more missions followed in the national team. Popov scored a goal and played each less than half of the season.

With CSKA in 2002 he was runner-up and 2003 Russian champion and twice won the Cup, but left the club after a few game days of the 2004 season because he did not fit into the concept of the new coach. After two more years at Premjer -division club FC Kuban Krasnodar he was singled out from the squad of Krasnodar and loaned out to various clubs; first to his hometown club Chernomorets Novorossiysk, then 2006. to the Belarusian record champions Dinamo Minsk for the season 2007 to the Premjer -division club Spartak Nalchik

The year 2008 Popov played in the 1st Division Russian, first for Chernomorets Novorossiysk and after a summer move for Torpedo Moscow, with 24 goals, he was top scorer. Since 2009 he is at FK Khimki under contract by which he descended from the Premjer League at 2009.
