Particulars

The Aratere was built under the hull number 1570 in Spain for the Wilmington Trust Company. The keel was laid on 10 November 1997, the launching in 1998. The ship was initially measured 150 feet long and 12,596 gross tonnage and 3,779 NRZ. The passenger capacity was 400 people. For vehicles were 1,005 lane meters for railway wagons 425 yards on four tracks. 2011, the ship in a shipyard in Singapore was extended by 30 meters.

The ship sails under the flag of New Zealand. The homeport is Wellington.

Use

The Aratere is on the route between Wellington ( North Island ) and Picton ( South Island ) are used. In this case, the ship crosses the Cook Strait. The journey takes about three hours at a distance of 92 km.

Technical Description

The Aratere has a diesel-electric drive. The electricity for the drive via four Wärtsilä diesel engines with a power output of 3,680 kW, coupled to four ABB generators. In addition, two further Wärtsilä diesel engines with a power output of 1,600 kW are installed to drive two electric generators.

The four drive motors act via transmission on two fixed-pitch propellers. The ship reaches a maximum speed of 19.5 knots.

The ship is divided into six decks.
