Devan Nair

Chengara Veetil Devan Nair (abbreviated CV Devan Nair ) (* August 5, 1923 in Malacca, Malaysia, † December 6, 2005 in Hamilton, Canada) was the third President of Singapore (October 23, 1981 to March 28, 1985 ). Nair co-founded the People's Action Party (PAP ) in Singapore. He was the successor to Benjamin Henry Sheares.

Resignation

On March 28, 1985 Nair resigned under mysterious circumstances. The former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew expressed in Parliament that Nair resigned to cure his alcoholism problems. Nair said, however, that he had resigned under political pressure. When her (note: Nair and Lee's ) political views were in conflict threatened Nair Lee, he would make a request for impeachment in Parliament.

Case Lee vs. " Globemail "

Nair said in an interview in " Globe and Mail " that Lee Kuan Yew's methods, his political opponents to sue up to their financial ruin or to displace them into irrelevance, an abrogation of political rights representative.
